The new urban development provides housing for about 3.000 residents and creates a soft, undulating skyline. The housing needs for the area are grouped and located strategically into two clusters. The first group, in the eastern part, offers a direct relationship with the Hatanpään valtatie Road, a future urban boulevard, and an indirect, visual relationship with the lake. The school, student housing and senior citizens homes are also located within this cluster. The second cluster is situated in the western part, with a more direct relationship with the lake and a strong, modern and urban character with ferry terminal, shops, restaurants and marina.
The position of the building clusters also respond to the creation of two main open spaces in the area: a beach area and a protected green park. The beach area is exposed directly to the lake, and a new plant filtered natural swimming pool area is created between two wooden docks. The new Tampere Beach offers a space for leisure and open-air activities that serves the city as a whole. The protected park offers a green sheltered space, protected from the north winds and holds sport fields and spaces for relaxation and leisure.
Along with the existing ecological corridor, a new, continuous waterfront promenade is introduced and integrated into the overall open space strategy within the city linking Hatanpää park to the urban center towards Tammerkoski Rapids. The promenade is punctuated by shops, restaurants and small businesses that create a new destination for leisure and tourism. By creating a new canal and reintroducing nature into the site, the possibility for recreation options grows and the ability to clean storm water runnoff into Lake Lidesjärvi is improved, enhancing the overall ecological strategy of the city.
